More confusion over ZC's own rules

Zimbabwe board again fails to meet

Cricinfo staff

November 17, 2005

The Zimbabwe Cricket board meeting due to take place this weekend has been postponed after further complications arose about the status of newly-elected officials. It is now two months since the AGM elected the new board, but disputes over its legitimacy and an inability to obtain a quorum has led to repeated delays.

Instead, the Board Selection Panel, headed by former ZC chairman Alwyn Pichanick, has been pressured to meet on Friday afternoon to rectify the appointments of two board members last month.

The appointment of Tavengwa Mukuhlani, the former Mashonaland province chairman, and lawyer Wilson Manase were regarded as flawed as the correct procedure was not followed - a transformational committee and the provincial chairmen did not nominate the two appointees as required by ZC's own laws. Also, ZC has taken Cyprian Mandenge on to the board, but his chairmanship of Mashonaland, which qualifies him for a place, is being contested.

The provincial chairmen say they will only attend a board meeting when the board becomes fully and legally constituted.

The news is another blow to Peter Chingoka, the beleaguered chairman, who had hoped that a full board meeting would enable him to salvage some credibility after a fortnight where players and stakeholders called for him to step down.
