 Profile

Thirush Kamini began playing cricket with her father when she was nine years old but soon moved to the Sports and Development Authority of Tamil Nadu for some professional coaching. Playing with boys, for a while, she kept wickets. But by 2002, Kamini had decided that leg spin was the way to go.

Kamini made a memorable debut at 16 in the Asia Cup in Jaipur when she took her career-best 3 for 19 against Pakistan. India won the tournament and Kamini won the player-of-the-tournament award for her eight wickets at 10.87. But against stronger opposition, picked for the Quadrangular tournament in Chennai in February-March 2007, Kamini got only one wicket in the in three games she played.

Her action is round arm and looks more like a legbreak bowler going round the wicket than over. On the Chepauk pitch, she got very little turn and her expensive spells meant that she did not always get to finish her quota of overs.
