Jamaica v T&T, Carib Beer final

'We failed to transition from Twenty20' - Ganga

Daren Ganga, the Trinidad and Tobago captain, has said not being able to make the transition from Twenty20 to four-day cricket was the reason why his side lost by nine wickets to Jamaica in the Carib Beer Challenge final at Sabina Park.

"I think that is something that has really challenged us this season," Ganga told the Trinidad Express. "What can I say? It's all about assessing where we went wrong. Again it's Jamaica who have beaten us in a final, the last time they beat us in the 50-over final. That is something we're going to remember as a team. That is something that we're going prepare for."

Ganga praised Dave Mohammed, who went wicketless but top scored in T&T's second innings with 57. "Dave has always come up trumps for us in tough situations. He's been really struggling with the ball this season. Amit Jaggernauth has really overshadowed him with his wicket-taking, but he came forward in this game, getting 30-odd not out in the first innings, and then 50-odd, he really applied himself, and brought some sort of respectability to our total."

Offspinner Jaggernauth topped the wickets list with 40 from six Carib Beer matches, while chinaman bowler Mohammed was 11th on the list with only 16.

Jamaica captain, Tamar Lambert, said Brendan Nash, the Queensland batsman who now plays for Jamaica and scored 117 in the final, was a revelation and everyone playing cricket in the Caribbean should take a leaf out of his book. "How he sets up his innings, and how he really carries on; once he's in he's going to score triple figures, and I think that's one thing we can learn from Brendan."
