The edition was bumped up to 25 shillings, because of the ever-increasing number of overseas tours to cover. To mark the 25th visit of the Australians, Neville Cardus compared the players before the Second World War with the ones after, and Rowland Bowen provided an exhaustive list of dates in Australian cricket history. Many famous players retired, including MJK Smith, Bobby Simpson and Conrad Hunte, while a few died as well: Sydney Barnes, Maurice Leyland and Arthur Mailey all passed away, as did Sir Frank Worrell, who is now honoured when West Indies and Australia play against each other. There is also mention of an American team touring England again - the Gentlemen of Philadelphia made five visits, the first in 1897.
