1978

Kerry Packer and World Series Cricket was an all-pervading theme in this issue ("The greatest upheaval and division the first-class game has ever known") with the matter still raging at the time of publication. Mike Brearley, England new captain in place of the disgraced Tony Greig, won praise as "a master in the art of cricket" as England beat Australia 3-0 to regain the Ashes. In fairness, Australia were a far-from-happy bunch, with the ramifications of the Packer Affair increasingly dividing them. Geoff Boycott reached his 100th hundred, and Ian Botham made his Test bow.
