International Under-15s Championship round-up

Campbell powers West Indies to easy win

Cricinfo staff

April 27, 2008

West Indies 237 (Campbell 112) beat Bangladesh 200 (Nelson 3-43)
Scorecard

West Indies won the toss and decided to bat in Group 1 of the CLICO International Under-15 Championship against Bangladesh, but in overcast conditions the batsmen soon found themselves in difficulty with the ball seaming around.

The first blow was struck when the prolific Kraigg Brathwaite, with scores of 122, 65 and 77 from the last three matches, was trapped lbw to Shahariar Islam for just 7. As in the Knockout Final against Pakistan, the West Indies middle order was again severely tested with Senior, Ambris and Katwaroo back in the pavilion for scores of 7, 9 and 10 respectively.

But John Campbell, the surprise of this tournament for West Indies, came to the rescue and put on a wonderful display of batting. With the team struggling at 134 for 4 in the 32nd over, Campbell, ably supported by young Akeem Saunders, staged West Indies' recovery who were all out for 237. Campbell ended with a fine 112.

Shahariar was the stand-out bowler for Bangladesh with 3 for 36 from his 10 overs, well supported by his captain, Nazeef Ahmed, with 3 for 55.

Replying for Bangladesh, Ahamedul Kabir played neatly for 80 and was supported by knocks of 18 and 15 from Litton Kumer Das and Rakin Ahmed, but it wasn't enough to prevent a West Indies victory by 37 runs. Kyle Myers returned figures of 2 for 21 and Donovan Nelson got back into the wickets with 3 for 43.

Ireland 111 for 3 (Getkate 31*) beat Kenya 110 (Karim 46, Getkate 4-17) by 7 wickets
Scorecard

Shane Getkate turned in a brilliant allround performance for Ireland who trounced Kenya by seven wickets. Getkate took 4 for 17 from 10 overs to restrict Kenya to a lowly 110 - Irfan Karim top-scored with 46 but the next best was Emmanuel Bundi's 15. Ireland lost three wickets but Getkate cracked an unbeaten 31 as Ireland romped home in the 31st over.

Pakistan 332 for 5 (Naeem 90) beat Netherlands 102 (Worries 20, Gohar 3-32) by 230 runs
Scorecard

Pakistan saw off Netherlands by the vast margin of 230 runs after their batsmen compiled a huge 332 for 5. Muhammad Naeem cracked 90 and there were fifties from Mohammad Babar, Ahsan Ali and Zafar Gohar. Netherlands had little realistic hope of reaching the target and were skittled for just 102, with Zafar finishing with 3 for 32.

Malaysia 157 for 8 (Goonasagaran 33, Hazim 19*) beat Americas 156 (Joshi 64, Zahid 3-36) by 2 wickets
Scorecard

Malaysia squeezed past Americas by two wickets, with Muhammad Hazim holding his nerve with an unbeaten 19. Americas' 156 were led by Abhijit Joshi's 64 but there was little else in support. Malaysia got off to a good start but lost Faizshal Niaz-lyn (32) and Keithan Goonasagaran (33) before Hazim guided them home.
