Born in Transvaal, Dewald Nel has become a useful member of Scotland's squad with his steady medium pace. His ODI opportunities have so far been limited, with one match in the World Cricket League followed by one game at the World Cup. However, with Paul Hoffman currently out of favour Nel has the chance to secure a permanent place in the team as Scotland look to the future. In May 2007 he was signed by Worcestershire after a 10-day trial, and impressing for the county's second XI. In his first Championship match, against Yorkshire, he claimed a promising 4 for 74.
