Profile
A stylish and sensible opening batsman, Hannan Sarkar was introduced to Test cricket as a 19-year-old, replacing the obdurate Javed Omar at the top of the order. One of four new
faces for the first Test of the Sri Lankan tour in July 2002, he made an immediate impression with a classy 55. It was the same old story for his team, though: Bangladesh collapsed from 107 for 2 to 161 all out. Since then, however, his personal fortunes have slipped rather dramatically. Against West Indies in 2003-04, he suffered the ignominy of falling to the first ball of the match in consecutive Tests, and it has been a struggle to assert himself ever since.
