Standard Bank Pro20 round-up

Dolphins drub the Warriors

Telford Vice

April 6, 2008

Dolphins 92 for 4 (Kent 33) beat Warriors 91 (Meyer 28, Louw 3-23) by six wickets
Scorecard

Johann Louw and Jon Kent were the stars as the Dolphins completed a six-wicket drubbing of the Warriors in a Standard Bank Pro20 match in Durban on Sunday.

Medium-pacer Louw took 3 for 23 to lead a superb bowling performance that saw the Warriors, who won the toss and chose to bat, shot out for a total of 91. In reply, Kent's 33 steered the Dolphins to 92 for 4 in 15 overs.

Louw was supported by Yusuf Abdullah (2-9) and Daryn Smit (2-19), and the Dolphins' fielders held several scintillating catches. The only Warriors to reach double figures were skipper Zander de Bruyn (15), Justin Kreusch (20) and Lyall Meyer (28).

The nearest the visitors came to mounting a decent partnership was the 23 runs that Meyer and Wayne Parnell(8) shared for the ninth wicket. Not one six was hit in the Warriors' innings and only eight fours made it to the boundary.

The Dolphins' openers, Imraan Khan (24) and Doug Watson (7), came out firing and looked like they might take their team to victory unassisted. But, having rattled up a stand of 30 off 27 deliveries, they were dismissed four balls apart in the fifth over as the home side slipped to 36 for 2.

Ahmed Amla (18) and Jon Kent (33) took the Dolphins 39 runs closer to their win, and there just two runs to get when Kent heaved a delivery from Juan Theron into the hands of Meyer at square leg. Fittingly, considering the Warriors' dismal display, the match ended in an anti-climax when Dave Miller gifted the Dolphins their winning run by bowling a wide.

In Paarl, rain and a wet outfield prevented any play in the match between the Cobras and the Highveld Lions.
