Dhaka Division v Barisal Division at Dhaka (SBNS), Dec 18, 2007 scorecard |
A natural strokemaker, Al Sahariar has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Bangladeshi side, though his talent has never been in question. At his best he is a wonderful timer of the ball, especially through the on side. At his worst, he lets his bottom
hand dominate his strokes, and he reaches for the ball with flat-footed uncertainty. His cause has not been helped by the Bangladeshi selectors, who insist on playing him as an opener. He attempted to curb his natural aggression, and played some gutsy cameos, but a highest score of 71 in 15 Tests led to his omission from Bangladesh's maiden tour of the Caribbean, and despite good club form since then, he has consistently been overlooked by the selectors.
