Profile
Chris Taylor's career promised much but has failed to deliver consistently for Gloucestershire. He marked his debut with a century in 2001 but couldn't sustain that level of performance. It took him a couple of seasons to establish himself in the team and he was a surprising choice as captain of the Championship side when Mark Alleyne became player-coach in 2004. The captaincy had a detrimental effect on his batting and he lost his place in the team through 2005 before handing over control to Jon Lewis. His form didn't improve much in 2006 with a poor Championship season where he averaged 26, although in one-day cricket his outstanding fielding and part-time offspin give him additional parts to play.
