Former England allrounder stays at Edgbaston

Dougie Brown named as Warwickshire's academy head

November 13, 2007

Dougie Brown has been appointed as Warwickshire's new academy director.

Brown, who retired at the end of the 2007 season, was a player with the county for 17 seasons and he also won nine ODI caps for England and 16 for Scotland. He was briefly coach of Namibia during the 2003 World Cup.

"It's great news to have Dougie on board," Ashley Giles, the county's new director of cricket, told the BBC. "I know he'll be the perfect person to develop the talented cricketers coming through the system."

"It's exciting to be tasked with such an important part of Warwickshire cricket," Brown told the club website. "My aim is to create a seamless transition for the Academy guys into the professional game."

Brown, however, said he still wanted to continue representing Scotland. "I intend keeping myself match fit and, depending on commitments at the Academy, I hope to be available for Scotland matches if selected."

His appointment ends speculation that he would replace Peter Drinnen as Scotland coach.
