A policeman by trade, Smith is a long-time servant of Scottish cricket who has witnessed his fair share of ups and downs. He still says defeat to Namibia in 2001, which meant Scotland missed the 2003 World Cup, gives him nightmares. He spent six seasons playing club cricket in Australia and represented Scotland at all age groups before becoming their No. 1 wicketkeeper.
