Paul Borrington made an inauspicious start to first-class cricket, bowled leaving a straight one first ball on debut against Leicestershire. In joining Derbyshire he followed in his father's footsteps AJ Borrington, who played for the club between 1970 and 1982. Borrington's opportunities have been limited so far, but he has shown promise, winning the NBC Dennis Compton Award in 2005. He signed a new two-year contract with Derbyshire at the end of the 2007 season.
