Mark Wagh's second fifty of the match helped to ease leaders Nottinghamshire home by six wickets against Hampshire on the final day at the Rose Bowl. Despite a rain interruption, Wagh and Samit Patel were able to muster a 91-run partnership in 18 overs which took them close to the finish, Patel ending on 65 not out. Wagh reached 67 before becoming one of three batsmen caught behind, while Bilal Shafayat finished things off.

Second Division

Essex wrapped up a 145-run victory against Derbyshire inside an hour on day four at Chelmsford. Resuming on 188 for 5, the visitors folded to 226 all out having been 184 for 3 just before the close on the previous evening. Despite the pitch taking an increasing amount of spin it was seamer Ryan ten Doeschate who did the most damage on the last day to give the home side their third win of the season. The allrounder recorded figures of 7.4-1-24-3 during a truncated morning session to finish with 4 for 29 in addition to a century and half-century with the bat. Danish Kaneria picked up the other wicket when he got one to lift at nightwatchman Jake Needham and wicketkeeper James Foster took another sharp catch. ten Doeschate fittingly ended the match by running out Charl Langeveldt when he picked up the ball in his follow-through and beat the batsman's lunge for the crease after setting off for a quick single and being sent back.

Warwickshire needed wickets - and quickly - if they were to have a chance of beating Gloucestershire on the final day and although they bagged 3 for 13 in the early period they were then scuppered by a combination of rain and Hamish Marshall. His half-century held up proceedings suitably, as did that of Steven Snell to guarantee the draw at Edgbaston. Their innings completed fine personal matches - Marshall making a century in the first innings and Snell another unbeaten fifty. Chris Woakes and Chris Martin combined to scare the visitors with the three early victims and Woakes later claimed his third in bowling Marshall but only after the batsman had put on a vital 103-run stand with Snell who batted out to the end with Marcus North.

Lance Klusener's unbeaten 94, plus a little help from the weather, ensured that Northamptonshire drew with Middlesex at Uxbridge after they had tumbled to 33 for 3. He and David Sales then combined with an unbroken stand of 143 to shore up the batting and secure the stalemate in a match which had included its fair share of mini-collapses in each innings. The draw was a fair result, however, after time and again batsmen dug their colleagues out of trouble and today it was Klusener's turn - his 94 coming at better than a run-a-ball. Sales' 42 came from a comparatively sedate 83 deliveries.
